Position: HMP/142 - Senior Engineering Manager
(Project Director equivalent) - Facilities Management Group
Location: based at prestigious Client HQ building in London
Role: The position holder will fulfil an outsourced role as
a Senior Engineering Manager for a high-profile corporate
client and as a result would be based at their very large
corporate premises in London. The Premises are supported by
engineering services including HV electrical distribution,
uninterruptible power supplies, standby power generation,
air conditioning and equipment cooling systems with N+1 redundancy,
fresh and re-circulation ventilation systems as well as associated
heating and domestic water systems. He/she will be required
to work with and fully integrate into the client’s Facilities
Management Team essentially providing the role of Head of
Engineering. The post-holder will, for day-to-day matters
in connection with the Client’s operation, report to the client’s
General Manager. It is essential that the appointee achieves
aseamless integration with the client’s team as they would
be providing both strategic and day-to-day operational advice
within certain levels of delegated authority.
The position holder will report to the Director, Facilities
Management Group for all matters in relation to Hilson Moran’s
delivery of this outsourced service.
The Senior Engineering Manager will be required to undertake
the day-to-day management of all of the Client’s engineering
services service providers whether visiting or resident on
the Premises. The duties of this role will include:
§ The day-to-day management and monitoring of the Client’s
chosen engineering services service providers (including M&E,
BMS, Fire and Security Systems, Lifts).
§ Working in collaboration with the Client team to establish
the strategic method of operation for the Premises.
§ Providing fully considered and pragmatic engineering advice
to the Client on day-to-day operational matters.
§ Administering the engineering services maintenance contracts
in the spirit of co-operation and partnership with the chosen
service providers, but in all cases ensuring that delivery
does not compromise the operation of the Premises.
§ Attending client handover training on the installed engineering
services and systems during the final handover stages of the
fit-out works.
§ Reviewing handover training information provided and in
collaboration with the engineering services service providers,
co-ordinating information received into documentation suitable
for successive training of future staff.
§ Providing a feedback loop to the original Hilson Moran project
design team on issues arising both during initial occupation
and during longer term operation.
§ Assisting in the collation, co-ordination and review of
engineering services defects arising from fit out works and
tracking these back through the appropriate contractual supply
chain.
§ Auditing of and reporting on the engineering service providers’
service delivery, in particular compliance with delegated
statutory obligations.
§ Proposing and collaborating with the Client team and the
Service Providers in the development and implementation of
new internal processes including Authority to Work, Safe Systems
of Work, Operational Procedures, Business Continuity Plans,
Help Desk operation, IT interfaces, Services Configuration
Management, Document Control.
§ Providing a link to the Hilson Moran original services design
team for all technical information and advice required during
Premises operation.
§ Undertaking a review, utilising other resources as necessary,
of any proposed new works or subsequent fit out activities
to assess and report on the potential impact on the business.
§ Overseeing engineering services projects during operations
as client advisor, or requesting and co-ordinating other Hilson
Moran resources as required
§ Ensuring good communications and co-operation at all levels
between the engineering services service providers and other
Facilities Service Providers.
§ Organising and chairing meetings as necessary to establish
strategy develop action plans and subsequently review progress
of all matters involving engineering services or associated
interfaces.
§ Working with the Client’s IT Department to establish logical
and workable processes for co-ordinating additional power
supply or cooling requirements in support of IT upgrades or
changes.
§ Assisting in the development and control of all budgets
associated with engineering services operation and maintenance.
The position holder may be expected to undertake weekend/evening
work if required to fulfil the Clients requirements, and to
be available for on-call duties as necessary.
Qualifications: The post holder will have broad practical
experience of Mechanical and Electrical engineering services,
and in particular the management and supervision of building
engineering services operation and maintenance. This knowledge
shall be electrically biased and experience in High Voltage
(HV) electrical systems would be a distinct advantage. Practical
knowledge of the requirements and methods of compliance with
statutory requirements and industry best practice in this
field is essential. The post holder will have held a previous
operational management role overseeing a minimum team of 10
staff and ensuring the quality and efficient delivery of services
to internal and external customers. The post-holder will have
had previous responsibility for setting and managing budgets
in excess of ?1.5M. This experience will have been gained
via a minimum of 5-years in one of the following grades or
environments:
§ Senior Contract Manager currently working for an engineering
services maintenance service provider and either currently
or previously responsible for the engineering services operation
and maintenance of large prestigious and high business risk
environments.
§ Senior engineering services consultant with some M&E
design experience but currently providing services similar
to those described above.
§ Client Engineering Manager with a strong technical background
biased towards HV electrical distribution and gained in a
similar environment to that described above.
Experience: Applicants should have at least 10 years relevant
experience, at least 5 of which should have been in the role
of Senior Design Engineer. Experience should include city
type commercial developments (new build; refurbishment and
fit-out). The applicant should also be familiar with medium
to large scale commercial projects, particularly in the City
Of London and
be capable of running projects and interfacing with Project
Teams, Clients etc. Experience in other market sectors would
be an advantage, e.g. residential and education. Experience
of working overseas will also be an advantage for future development,
particularly in the Middle Eastern countries.
